    Drilling Mud Chemical Partially Hydrolyzed Anion Polyacrylamide PHPA Emulsion

    PHPA is short for partially hydrolyzed polycarylamide powder, it's a kind of drilling mud additive.

    It is a co-polymer of anionic character and high molecular weight. It is a water-soluble polymer, which is primarily used as a highly efficient fluid loss reducer, viscosifier and protective colloid for shale's and cutting in fresh water, calcium, sodium brines and KCL mud systems. It is compatible with most of the drilling fluid products, biopolymers, PAC, CMC. It maintains borehole stability by preventing shale swelling and erosion.

     

    PHPA Features:
    Can be used in both industrial and oil/gas drilling.
    Can be used in both fresh water and brines but requires high temperature.
    Can be used as Oil-displacing agent of oil field tertiary oil recovery.
    Applicable in : shale stabilization, viscosities, friction reduction, fluid loss control and lubrication.
     

    PHPA Advantages:
    It functions as an inhibitor by coating or encapsulating formation & cuttings.
    It also restricts the interaction of water hydratable & dispersible shale's.
    It can be used as a flocculent in clear water drilling.
    It also provides inhibition properties to fresh water, sea water and also in presence of calcium ions.
    High viscosity of this drilling fluid helps in better removal of cuttings from bore hole.
    It is resistant to bacterial fermentation.

    PHPA application

    1. Oil field profile controlling and water- plugging agent, matched with CMC and a certain amount of chemical adhesive added. It can be used as oil field profile controlling and water-plugging agent.
    2. Can also be used mud additive for EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) process to improve production of oil gas drilling chemical
    3. In oil field, as a kind of mud additives.To increase the viscosity of water and improve the effectiveness of the water flooding process.
    PHPA provides cuttings encapsulation and improved wellbore stability. Typical concentrations are 0.25 to 2 lb/bbl (0.71 to 5.9 kg/m3). It is effective in salt muds such as KCl‐ or NaCl enhanced fluids, although slightly higher concentrations of PHPA may be required.
    PHP Aadditive can be used in clear water, solids free drilling fluids. PHPA enhances solids removal by flocculating the undesired solids.
    PHPA agent is well suited to LSND Type muds. In reduced‐bentonite muds, it extends bentonite to increase viscosity, flocculates the drill solids for more efficient removal, encapsulates cuttings and improves wellbore stability.

    The effectiveness of the polymer is reduced as the concentration of dispersants/deflocculants is increased.
    Viscous PHPA additive sweeps are effective for periodic hole cleaning. Sweeps may be prepared by mixing PHPA directly in the active system at the suction pit or by premixing a high concentration in a separate pit and alowing the polymer to fully yield before being added to the active system.
    When drilling top hole, a liquid solution of PHPA may be poured into the drill pipe during connections to help hole cleaning and maintaining a clean stabilizer and bit.

     
    PAM can also be used in many other fields like Coal washing, Ore-dressing, Sludge Dewatering, etc.
